Having a board of directors is a great way to ensure that your business is being managed efficiently and that decisions are taken in an open and fair way. To be effective, the board should be active in its members and present at every meeting. A lack of attendance at meetings causes a loss of productivity and can lead to a decline of effective leadership. Here are a few suggestions that can aid you in improving your board of directors ‘ meetings.

Plan ahead: Make sure that the board members have received pertinent information, including reports, financial statements, and background material prior to the date of the meeting. This will allow them to be ready with well-thought-out questions. Sending the information early also gives board members the chance to check their schedules and confirm they’re free to attend.

Start your meeting at the right time. Call the meeting to call it to order and confirm quorum. This will show that the board values the time of everyone.

Set up a clear decision-making procedure A clear decision-making procedure keeps the discussion focused and eliminates divergent thoughts that could derail the meeting.

Encourage active participation. It can be difficult to create a space in my company where everyone feels comfortable sharing insights and perspectives. The chairperson has a big role to play here as they can facilitate participation by inviting input from all sides and facilitating thoughtful and constructive discussions. They can also set ground rules for discussion in order to encourage concise remarks and equal time for all participants.
